The Problem
Konbini's outdated website design didn’t meet the expectations of their audience. Most users discovered content through social media, read a single article, and then left the site, limiting both engagement and ad revenue potential. Additionally, the redesign needed to maintain Konbini’s unique art direction, support SEO goals, and accommodate ad placements—all while balancing input from multiple departments.
Mission Goals
The project’s core objectives were to modernize Konbini’s website to align with their brand, increase on-site engagement, and drive more direct traffic. The goal was to create a website experience that encouraged users not just to view a single article, but to explore more content and stay engaged.
As a designer working closely with Konbini’s product team over the course of two years, I facilitated a collaborative approach that brought together multiple stakeholders, including teams from legal, development, advertising, SEO, editorial, and art direction. We held cross-departmental workshops to ensure alignment and gather insights on priorities across all areas.
To validate our design choices, I also conducted user interviews and user testing. We built a database of Konbini’s users who regularly participated in testing sessions, allowing us to gather valuable feedback from the target audience and refine our approach based on their preferences and behavior.
The homepage was redesigned to display top stories in a prominent position, making it easy for users to find key content at a glance.
Given the popularity of Konbini’s video content, I included a dedicated video block on the homepage, allowing users to quickly access trending videos directly from the main page.
To keep users informed and engaged, I added a compact news summary section that highlights high-priority stories in a digestible format. This section allows visitors to quickly catch up on essential updates.
Articles were enhanced with strategically placed links to related content within the page, encouraging readers to continue exploring other topics of interest without being too intrusive.
I designed a floating mobile menu that sits at the bottom of the screen, providing quick access to key sections of the site. This modern, accessible menu was well-received by users, as it made navigation faster and more intuitive on mobile devices.
The redesigned website saw a noticeable increase in traffic, with users giving positive feedback on its updated look and usability. Additionally, more users became aware of Konbini’s website, enhancing brand visibility outside of social media and encouraging deeper engagement with the platform.
